“My guess is that they [=Iranien regime]Â do not expect to be attacked. Remember, they have no experience of the functioning of a free society. The sort of self-criticism and mutual criticism that we see as normal is beyond their understanding and totally outside their experience. What we see as free debate, they see as weakness and division and fear.
Therefore I think they have a very low estimate of the forces that oppose them, whether in the US or Israel or elsewhere. They expect to have it their way, whatever way they choose.”

Bernard Lewis (born May 31, 1916, London) is the Cleveland E. Dodge Professor Emeritus of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. He specializes in the history of Islam and the interaction between Islam and the West and is especially famous for his works on the history of the Ottoman Empire.
Lewis is one of the most widely read scholars of the Middle East, whose advice is frequently sought by policymakers. The Encyclopedia of Historians and Historical Writing has written that, over a 60-year career, he has emerged as “the most influential postwar historian of Islam and the Middle East.”

Wofür blogge ich eigentlich? Völliger Unsinn. Um eigene Beiträge zu schreiben fehlt mir meist die Zeit und Hinweise auf Videos, interessante Texte aus Zeitungen und Blogs bringen andere Blogs schon zu genüge. Das Bloggen kommt mir schrecklich sinnlos vor. Leute, die dieses Blog lesen, teilen ohnehin eine größere Schnittmenge meiner Ansichten und andere lesen es nicht. Ich wollte eine Art Gegenschwerpunkt zum Mainstream bloggen. Anstelle des Blogs habe ich dazu mittlerweile zwei wesentlich effektivere Ideen, die ich aber noch nicht verraten kann. Ansonsten: Statt zu bloggen verbringe ich zukünftig einige meiner Abende im Fitness-Center! Ab und zu werde ich auch mal etwas schreiben - mich ansonsten aber eher als Kommentatorin in den anderen Blogs betätigen … |
